The fact is in life, there is a time to have less and a time to have more. In fact there is a time for everything. In life people need to work but to work too much is just as bad as not working at all.
I. Here are some Proverbs that mean that there is a time it's better to have less:
Proverbs 15:16- Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.
Proverbs 15:27- He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house but he that "hateth" gifts shall live.
Proverbs 16:8- Better is little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
Thinking about it, in the business world today, the people care more about money than anything. Most people don't realize greed causes economic meltdowns- it doesn't take an expert economist like King Solomon to figure it out. Today the Philippines is borrowing money from one country after the other and the debt is just skyrocketing and skyrocketing- and the same went for America causing the global financial crisis.
No wonder the Bible says in 1 Timothy 6:10 that the love of MONEY is the root of all evil in today's society. Besides why do you think immoral businesses like pornography, narcotics, drugs, gambling, disco houses, etc. are becoming huge industries? Also, crime is very rampant. Why do you think corruption exists? It's for the same reason- EASY MONEY!
And how do these immoralities get fed? No business exists without PEOPLE. There's product, price, place and promotion but NEVER forget PEOPLE. If there are beautiful women to pose naked, there are bound to be buyers. If there are people who operate these businesses, production is done. If there are people who avail of such evils, revenues come. It's a cycle that never ends. More money means more power.
The same goes for false religion and false preachers who pretend to be Christians. Just watch the TV and look around the surroundings. For example, many false religions (ex. Catholicism, Buddhism, Orthodox, Coptic to name a few) promises Heaven to those who can pay for the indulgences when it's NO USE praying for the dead unsaved. Another is how false preachers who seem Christian like Eli Soriano, Benny Hinn, Wilde Almeda and Apollo Quiboloy get popular with their false doctrines squeezing money out of people's pockets.
II. In the Book of Ecclesiastes, King Solomon's own life was reflected about him having more and not being satisfied.
Ecclesiastes 5:10-12 is indeed right saying, "He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver nor he that loveth abundance with increase this is also vanity. When goods increase they are increased that eat them and what good is there to the owners thereof saying the beholding of the with their eyes. The sleep of a laboring man is sweet whether he eat little or much but the abundance of the rich shall not suffer him to sleep."
How true it was indeed. I have experienced these myself. I have remembered a time I was able to sleep well and a time I was not able to sleep well. I remembered a time when there was but increase, I just keep getting excited about having more increase. Soon enough, I wasn't able to sleep well and the next thing I knew, I was worrying about a decrease. In fact, I remembered having rich classmates who couldn't sleep well at all and there were many various reasons. Some of them have multiple girlfriends, stocks to worry about. I bet Gloria Arroyo can't sleep properly worrying about whether or not her scams in the U.S. would lead her to a life in jail as the next Boysen model!
On the working professional who works to simply ease the hardships of life and to sustain his family without dreaming of becoming a billionaire is able to sleep properly because he doesn't stress himself too much. Just think about this statement that some honest to goodness old fashioned revival pastors like Pastor Armie Jesalva would say in the pulpit, "Riches are a necessity but like water, too much of it can also kill like one drowns in water."
Just as said, "Money can buy a house but not a home. Money can buy a bed but never the best sleep." Some can argue about sleeping pills but they're downright deadly and deceiving. A good example of this would be the Pope- he is richer than Bill Gates but his money can't save him from Hell, he can't get a goodnight sleep worrying about people leaving the Great Whore of Revelation.
To close, Solomon found himself miserable in his self, happy in the Lord Jesus Christ because his life was but vanity.
