To think about it, Psalm 73:4-1 record these about the prospering bad grass and I'll paraphrase them for easier understanding:
- They are healthy in some ways... for now.
- They seem to have no trouble... for now.
- They have plenty of wealth... for now.
- They keep getting away with their sins... for now.
- They are increasing in riches... for now.
Don't you think it's unfair? In fact Habakkuk in his whole book lamented on the fact that the Babylonians were somewhat enjoying their lives. For example, the Babylonians were once known to be a glorious civilization that surpassed Egypt. However God told Habakkuk in the end that these wicked men will get what they deserve.
Just like for example, Egypt was a nation that was so powerful when it enslaved the descendants of Jacob for 400 years. However when Moses came to Egypt to face his presumably adoptive cousin the Pharaoh of the Exodus, it was a big awakening. Egypt in the end lost its power and wealth when God struck down their Feng Shui with His awesome power. Egypt was in total ruins, the next Pharaoh occupied a country that was devasted for its stubbornness.
In my life too, I've encountered such evil men. In fact, being single can be frustrating while some of my enemies are dating ladies. Then here's what I found out- I was just so foolish to envy them. I ended up finding out these things just as the Bible would have said that pride comes before the fall (Proverbs 16:18).
I ended up finding out for example that the wicked man I envied was dating strange women of wanton nature. On the other hand, God may have opened the opportunity for me to marry a Ruth at a later age or marry a Rahab as a redeeming suitor. In fact, I find myself praising my Lord for having given me wisdom in my foolishness to resist flimsy girls who could go as far as to offer free sex.
Another has to be that the person who had many possessions later lost a lot of them because he was so extravagant. The loss can be compared to that of King Sennacherib's losing his army against the Lord Jesus Christ.
Also with what King David mentioned in Psalm 73:14 is that on the other hand, he was chastened and plagued every morning. Notice chastened. Proverbs 3:11-12 says that the Lord chastens those He loves. In Hebrews 12:3-4 says that if no chastening to the Christians happen, then they were not in Christ's righteousness but rather outside of Christ's righteousness.
In short, King David sinned by looking only at the short term things of life. I sinned in the same way when I only thought of the now, exaggerate the future plan- not realizing that Moses didn't complain about being in the desert for 40 years, Isaac prayed patiently for God and that when Sarah went agaisnt God's perfect timing, Abraham also sired the enemies of Israel descended from his bastard son Ishmael. In fact, Boaz may have been patiently waiting for a wife- and God answered his prayers by sending Ruth while I on the other hand, wanted to date with strange women like Samson and Solomon did out of envy.
In the long term, their wealth will not deliver them. Think about it, when Belshazzar was executed by the Persian forces, his wealth could not save him. When Haman was hanged by King Xerxes, his wealth could not save him. Psalm 49 in fact addresses about that issue.
Lastly to think about it, evildoers choose to distance themselves from the Lord no wonder salvation is far from them (Psalm 119:155). They may be laughing now but if they die without Christ, there's going to be NO LAUGHING in Hell, only an eternity of sorrow, regret, pain and more torment.
